Disclaimer
What this site is not, stated as plainly as the rest of it.
Researched from published specifications and verified owner reviews · updated 2026
The short answer
Everything on DroneGearSetup.com is researched guidance rather than professional, legal or safety advice. Product recommendations come from published specifications and verified owner reviews rather than hands-on testing. Regulatory information is researched from published FAA material and may be out of date, so confirm current requirements with the FAA or your national aviation authority. The remote pilot in command is responsible for every flight.
This page states the limits of everything else on the site. It is short on legal formula and long on plain language, because a disclaimer nobody reads protects nobody.
Informational only
All content on DroneGearSetup.com is provided for general informational and educational purposes. It is not professional advice, legal advice, aviation instruction, engineering advice, insurance advice or financial advice, and it does not create any professional relationship between you and the publisher.
Your circumstances are specific and this site is general. Where a decision carries real consequences, whether legal, commercial or physical, consult someone qualified who knows your jurisdiction and your situation. That is particularly true of anything involving a commercial operation, an insurance position, or a flight anywhere near people, property or controlled airspace.
Researched, not tested
We do not fly review units and we never claim to. Every product recommendation on this site is built from three sources: published manufacturer specifications, published regulatory material, and verified owner reviews and community reports read in volume across several retailers and communities.
That method is reliable for specifications, thresholds and well-documented behaviour, and it has a genuine blind spot. It cannot tell you how an aircraft feels, how a firmware release from last week behaves, or how a specific unit performs. Where published figures and owner reports disagree, and they most often do on rated flight time and transmission range, pages here name the realistic number and say why. Where we do not know, we say that too.
Regulatory information may be out of date
Drone regulation is federal law that changes through rulemaking. Remote ID requirements, night operations, operations over people and recurrent training have all changed within recent years, and more will change. Any regulatory summary on any website is behind its source by some interval.
Everything here is researched from published FAA material at the time of writing and is not an official FAA product. Confirm current requirements at faa.gov/uas before you fly, and read the actual advisories in whichever airspace application you use, because temporary flight restrictions appear and disappear daily and no static page tracks them.
Outside the United States none of it transfers. The European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Japan each operate separate registration, certification and remote identification regimes with different weight thresholds. Check your own national aviation authority.
The pilot is responsible
The remote pilot in command is responsible for the airworthiness of the aircraft, the preflight inspection, the airspace, the weather, the people and property below, and the outcome of the flight. That responsibility is not transferable to this site, to a manufacturer's geofence, to an airspace app, or to a calculator on this or any other website.
Software permission is not regulatory authorization. An app that allows a takeoff has not confirmed that the flight is legal, and an app that blocks one has not necessarily identified a real restriction. Both are aids and neither is authority.
Calculators and estimates
Every calculator on this site runs in your browser and produces an estimate. Each one starts from a published specification and subtracts real-world factors, and each builds in a reserve, and none of them is an instrument.
Battery capacity falls with age and falls sharply in cold. Wind at altitude is routinely stronger than at head height and can come from a different direction. Payload, terrain, density altitude and firmware behaviour all move outputs. Treat every result as a planning figure that keeps you away from the edge, never as a number to fly precisely to, and land earlier than any output suggests rather than later.
Prices, availability and specifications
Prices shown on this site were the observed retail listings when each page was written, and they move constantly. Build totals are computed from those figures and are planning numbers rather than quotes. Availability changes, listings are discontinued and replaced, and a product named on a page may no longer be sold in the form described.
Specifications are taken from manufacturer documentation and can be revised between production runs and firmware versions. Where a figure matters to a decision, particularly a weight figure near the 250 g registration threshold, verify it against your own aircraft rather than against this site. A kitchen scale is more reliable than any table on the internet.
Safety, and things this site does not cover
Flying an unmanned aircraft carries risk to people, property and other aircraft, and battery chemistry carries a genuine fire risk. Nothing here removes those risks and following any procedure on this site does not guarantee a safe outcome.
This site does not publish, and will not publish, anything about evading detection or Remote ID, flying in restricted or controlled airspace without authorization, defeating manufacturer geofencing or safety systems, or using a drone to observe people. Those omissions are deliberate.
External links
This site links to external websites, including retailers, manufacturers and regulators. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their availability, their accuracy or their privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the linked site, and regulatory links are provided precisely so you can check us against the source.
Product links on this site are affiliate links and we earn commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. The full statement is on the affiliate disclosure page.
No warranty, and limitation of liability
The content on this site is provided on an "as is" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation any implied warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We make reasonable efforts to be correct and we do not guarantee it.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the publisher shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages arising out of or in connection with the use of this site or reliance on any information it contains, including damage to aircraft or property, regulatory penalties, or loss of data or income. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions of liability, so parts of this paragraph may not apply to you.
Trademarks and affiliation
DroneGearSetup.com is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration, DJI, Autel, Parrot, or any other organisation or manufacturer named on this site. Product names, brand names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification purposes only.
How to sanity-check anything here
A disclaimer that only tells you not to rely on a site is not very useful. Here is the practical version: three checks that catch nearly every way this site could steer you wrong.
Weigh the aircraft yourself. Any claim about the 250 g threshold depends on the takeoff weight of your specific configuration with your specific accessories fitted. A kitchen scale settles it in ten seconds and is more reliable than every specification table online.
Check the rule at the source. Every regulatory page here links to the FAA. If a number on this site and a number on faa.gov disagree, the FAA is right and we are out of date.
Check the live price before budgeting. Build totals here are computed from observed listings at the time of writing, and drone pricing moves by hundreds of dollars around model announcements. The links exist partly so you can see the current figure in one click.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us through the contact page with the page URL and, where you can, the source that shows the correct figure. Regulatory corrections are treated as urgent. The related documents are the privacy policy, the terms of service and the about page, which explains how the research is done in more detail.
Questions people ask
+ Is anything on this site legal advice?
No. Drone regulation is federal law that changes through rulemaking, differs between countries, and depends on where you are, why you are flying and what you are flying. This site explains how requirements generally work so you can apply them. The FAA, or your own national aviation authority, is the authority on what those requirements currently are.
+ Do you test the products you recommend?
No, and every page says so. Recommendations here are researched from published manufacturer specifications, published FAA material and verified owner reviews read in volume. We do not fly review units and we do not claim hands-on experience we do not have. Research is a legitimate method and misrepresenting it would not be.
+ Are the calculators accurate?
They are planning tools, not instruments. Each one starts from a published specification and subtracts real-world factors, and each carries a reserve. Battery age, temperature, wind at altitude, payload and terrain all move the real number, usually in the direction that costs you margin. Never fly an output to the last minute.
+ Who is responsible if a flight goes wrong?
The remote pilot in command, which is you. Responsibility for the airworthiness of the aircraft, the preflight inspection, the airspace, the weather, the people below and the outcome of the flight rests with the pilot and cannot be transferred to a website, an app, a manufacturer geofence or a calculator.
+ Are the prices reliable?
They were the observed retail listing when each page was written and they move constantly. Drone pricing swings hard around model announcements and promotions. Every total on this site is a planning figure rather than a quote, and you should check the live price before committing to a budget.
+ What if a rule has changed since a page was written?
Assume it might have. Drone regulation is among the fastest-moving areas of aviation law, and Remote ID, night operations and operations over people have all changed within recent years. Use this site to understand the shape of a requirement, and confirm its current state with the FAA before you fly.
